Every news stand displays countless magazines offering “the” answer for easy and quick weight loss. It’s easy to deceive ourselves into thinking they might actually work this time around. Unfortunately, most fad diets offer little in the area of sound advice and just good basic nutrition.
So here’s the plain truth: whether you’ve already achieved a healthy weight; are striving to shed a couple pounds; or are definitely overweight or grossly obese, the healthy food guidelines are one and the same. We’re talking very basic and very simplistic guidelines that anyone can follow.
Unhealthy food habits that sabotage your weight loss plan.
Before we go any further I’d like to talk about a variety of unhealthy ways you might be using food in your life. The eating habits you’ve formed over the years have directly resulted in your current overweight condition and state of poor health. Some of these poor habits that need to be addressed are:
If you’re eating food:
- because you’re emotionally upset or moody
- to keep your hands busy while you’re watching television or using the computer
- as your main means of socializing with friends and family
- for comfort when life gets rocky and full of stress
- because it’s a bond between you and your significant other
- simply because it’s your very best friend
Sadly, most of us have a longstanding and unhealthy relationship with food. Our entire lives rotate around it with every outing and event being punctuated by food. When we shop, travel, dine out, barbecue, picnic, celebrate, work or spend time with our loved ones there’s an endless supply of food. To make matters worse, the majority of this continual buffet is grossly deficient of nutrients and power-packed with fat, sugar and calories. The pounds gradually accumulate on your body and you find yourself in a constant battle to lose weight. Nothing you try works for any length of time and you find yourself in a vicious dieting cycle.
So what will you attain by eating a healthy, balanced diet?
- Energy – immediate supply and vital for energetic living
- Nourishment – for a healthy, strong body that functions properly
- Strength – to prevent illness and disease now and in the future
Here in the United States we have truly lost track of what it means to eat nutritiously and ultimately enjoy optimal health in our lives. The food industry has slyly introduced high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie ingredients into processed foods to make them taste better. But even more alarming is their use of a toxic cocktail of chemicals to enhance the flavors and make them look more visually appealing. These foods are seriously lacking in nutrients and are actually stimulating inflammation in your body because your immune system sees this “fake” food as a foreign invader.
